Practical stuff
Where to stay near Lúčka
There are two hotels in nearby town Lipany (10-min drive from Lúčka) - Hotel Mladost and Hotel Troja - both of which can be booked through booking.com. There are also several hotels in Sabinov (20-min drive) - as well as a selection of individual chalets in the small skiing village Drienica (25-min drive).
Getting to Lúčka
The nearest airports are Košice and Poprad-Tatry (both around 1hr30 drive from Lúčka) - but these are small airports with limited destinations. Currently Wizz Air is the main airline operating between London (Luton) and both of these airports (daily from Košice and 3 flights a week from Poprad-Tatry). Ryanair also has a new connection between London (Southend) and Košice which will be running 3 times a week in August.
The nearest major airports are Kraków [Poland] (just under 3hrs drive away), Bratislava [Slovakia] (just under 4hrs drive) and Budapest [Hungary] (just under 4hrs drive).
Another possibility to consider is Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport [Poland] - which is just over 4 hours drive, and Ryanair flies here from several airports in the UK and across Europe.
It is possible to get from the airports to Lúčka using public transport, but it's worth bearing in mind that this is quite a rural area - and you might want to consider renting a car for your trip. However, we will also be arranging a mini-bus shuttle on the day of the wedding celebrations - so make sure you tell us where you are staying (once you know!) if you would like to make use of this. If you intend to use public transport the whole time, Košice and Bratislava are probably the best connected with regular trains / buses via Presov.
It might be worth noting that you typically need to pay a supplement on car rental to maintain insurance if you are driving between countries.
What else to do while you're here
Slovakia is a beautiful country - and Lúčka is close to the Polish border, and not far from Ukraine, Hungary and the Czech Republic. If you have time to add a few days to your travels, there are plenty of interesting places nearby that are definitely worth visiting on a road trip.
The Tatra mountains in Slovakia are a popular skiing region in the winter - and a hiking destination in the summer (see an example here). Spending a few days here would be a great way to get a flavour of the Slovak countryside.
